The refreshed 2018 Volkswagen Touareg was revealed last Friday at an exclusive event in Beijing. The third generation SUV showcases VW’s new approach toward the SUV segment and will serve as the flagship model for the company. Earlier, the Phaeton was Volkswagen’s frontline SUV but it was discontinued in 2016 in favor of an electric model, which is yet to be released.
To cement its position as the premium VW SUV, the Touareg has been designed to look more stylish and larger compared to the previous model. The SUV is overall 3.0 inches longer than its predecessor. It is also 1.7 inches wider and 0.3 inches shorter than the last model. The Touareg is based on the MLB platform that allows weight reduction and advanced safety features like air suspension and roll-stabilization.
The lavish interior has a 12-inch screen for the instrument cluster and a 15-inch touch screen infotainment system which is part of the VW Innovision Cockpit design. Moreover, it comes with driving aids like automatic emergency braking, night vision, and more.
There will be a number of engine options for European customers. Buyers will be able to choose from either the two 3.0 diesel V6 engines that produce 228 hp and 282 hp or from a petrol 3.0-liter V6 which makes 335 hp.
Moreover, a hybrid boost option will be available in markets like China which will increase the hp to 362. To amp up the engine options a bit, a 4.0-liter V8 diesel pumping out 415 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque will be offered later.
The updated 2018 Volkswagen Touareg will have a special off-road variant with a large fuel tank and underbody protection as well as an R-Line sports variant. Pricing details for the vehicle haven’t been announced. However, you can buy the outgoing model through Motoraty.
