2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Will Deliver A Healthy 50 MPG

Introducing the 2025 Honda Civic. This beloved compact sedan features a refreshed design, but the real excitement lies beneath the revamped grille and fascia. There’s a new hybrid powertrain available in two fresh trims. It delivers strong performance along with exceptional fuel efficiency.

For 2025, Honda presents the Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid trims, with the latter becoming the top-tier option in the Civic lineup. Honda keeps specifics about the hybrid system under wraps, but it includes a dual e-motor setup paired with a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine, offering a combined output of 200 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque. Notably, this matches the horsepower and surpasses the torque of the new Civic Si. This might be why Honda touts the hybrid as the most powerful non-Type-R Civic ever.

Honda asserts that the electrified Civic outpaces the 1.5-litre turbocharged versions, now discontinued except for the Si. The new hybrid is anticipated to achieve an EPA rating nearing 50 mpg, blending moderate performance with excellent efficiency. In contrast, the most efficient 2024 Civic gets a 36-mpg rating. The hybrid benefits from four regenerative braking levels, and the suspension has specific tuning to enhance ride quality and reduce noise. Honda notes that hybrid models exhibit the lowest NVH among all Civics.

The updated design was previewed in January, and now we see the Civic’s refreshed look more clearly. The lower fascia replaces larger corner vents with narrow vertical openings, and the grille is slightly larger. Hybrid models feature body-colored headlight trim and a lip spoiler, while all Civics have darker taillights. New exterior colors include Solar Silver Metallic, Urban Gray Pearl, Blue Lagoon Pearl, and Sand Dune Pearl.

Inside, hybrid trims feature a gray interior, while the Sport Touring Hybrid offers leather seats, a 12-speaker stereo, and a larger 9-inch infotainment screen. The Sport Touring Hybrid also introduces Google built-in, a first for the Civic.

“The new Civic hybrid arrives just as hybrid-electric sales are rising, giving Honda a crucial step towards 100 percent zero-emissions vehicle sales by 2040,” said Lance Woelfer, Honda’s assistant vice president of Honda National Auto Sales. “In 2023, Honda hybrid-electric models made up over one-quarter of our total brand sales, and the enjoyable Civic hybrid is a fantastic addition to our popular electrified lineup, alongside the Accord hybrid, CR-V hybrid, and the all-electric Prologue.”

The 2025 Honda Civic hits dealerships starting with sedans in June. Both sedan and hatchback hybrid models will be available, with the LX and Sport continuing as non-hybrid, more affordable trims featuring the 2.0-liter engine. Pricing details will be revealed later this year.
