Refreshed 2022 BMW 8 Series Comes With Minor Design Changes

BMW launched the 8 Series in 2018 and now is the time of an update. For the 2022 model year, the German automaker gave a mild exterior and interior refresh to the 8 Series Coupe, Cabriolet, and Gran Coupe sedan. This mid-cycle update doesn’t come with significant changes, but there are definitely some enhancements, fans would be grateful for.

Interior & Exterior

Starting with the interior, the first thing we notice is the 12.3-inch Live Cockpit Professional display instead of the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. On the outside, we see considerable modifications, such as a new well-lit grille, boasting restyled u-shaped vertical bars. The trick grille works as you unlock the car or open its door. If you find this feature a little odd, you can turn it off from the setting.

Colour

Besides these changes, the refreshed 2022 BMW 8 Series offer you five new shades to choose from such as Skyscraper Grey metallic, San Remo Green metallic, Portimao Blue metallic, BMW Individual Frozen Tanzanite Blue metallic, and Frozen Pure Grey – and two new elective wheel options.

M Version

Landing in the M territory, we find the M850i xDrive coupe, convertible, and Gran Coupe models come with more improvements. The variant features the M exterior mirrors first produced solely for the BMW M8 and an M symbol in the grille.

BMW also offers a non-compulsory M Sport Package Professional for the M850i xDrive coupe, sporting black calipers, a black kidney grille, a black spoiler, and Shadowline headlights with dark inserts.

For all the M850i xDrive models, expect them to include BMW Motorsport emblem on the hood, trunk, and wheel hubs rather than the typical BMW roundel. The carmaker is commemorating five decades of BMW M GmbH existence, and the new symbol reminds the first one the company used for its racing cars in 1973.

Production and Price

The luxury automaker will start the development of the updated 2022 BMW 8 Series next month with the base variant featuring the same price as for the outgoing 8 Series. It means the 2022 Coupe and Gran Coupe will start at $85,000 without the destination fee. The 850i Gran Coupe Carbon Edition here in the UAE goes for AED 693,190. The 8 Series Convertible will cost $94,400.

Limited Edition 8 X Jeff Koons

Before BMW starts manufacturing in March 2022, they will first showcase the 8 X Jeff Koons edition 8 Series. It is a limited edition 850i xDrive Gran Coupe that will show its face to the public on February 17. BMW states the vehicle boasts a “multi-layer exterior finish in eleven colors,” whereas the cabin features “the very finest leather,” among others. The Alpina B8 Gran Coupe will also benefit from the 8 Series’ fresh grille, touchscreen, and shade options.
