2023 Peugeot E-308 Debuts in Hatchback and Wagon Body Styles

The French automaker Peugeot has kept the pledge it made some time back by introducing a zero-emission 308. The compact car is underpinned on the same platform the automaker uses for the gas-powered 308; thus, the electric car has almost the same exterior and interior design. However, the E-308 gets a new pair of 18-inch wheels to improve its efficiency on the road.

The automaker has used a newly developed battery with a functional competence of 51 kWh. Working under 400 volts, its new chemical arrangement includes 80 per cent nickel, 10 per cent manganese, and 10 per cent cobalt. Once completely juiced up, the E-308 will be able to cover 400 kilometres (nearly 250 miles) distance, according to the WLTP cycle.

About the changes for the electronic variant, engineers altered the front fascia and underbody to improve aerodynamics and added fresh low-friction rubber for the same reason. A Brake driving mode is there emphasizing deceleration as the driver lifts their foot off the accelerator pedal to improve energy recovery.

Charging at the rate of 100kW will allow the new Peugeot E-308 to juice up from 20 to 80 per cent in fewer than 25 minutes.

The automaker will introduce the new E-308 in hatchback and wagon body styles. The EV employs a single electric motor creating 156 horsepower (115 kilowatts) and 260 Newton-meters (191 pound-feet) of torque. Unfortunately, that’s all we know about the powertrain. The company didn’t release the performance figures but did mention it will offer instant torque, which is a trademark ability of EVs.

Regarding the things the company shared with the media, the 2023 308 EV will be available by the mid of 2023 in Allure and GT grades. Interested customers will be able to buy the hatchback or wagon online through Peugeot’s website. They can even trade in their old Peugeots with the EV and get financing options as well. Interestingly, buyers will receive the 308 EV at their doorstep with zero delivery cost.

Of note, the French automaker asserts the E-308 SW is the first electric wagon from any European automaker. However, we beg to differ because the Porsche Taycan Sport/Cross Turismo is also a wagon. Besides these two, the MG5 electric is another EV wagon customers will be able to choose from.
